Contact
lenses have made you free from your glasses as they don't fog up in winter, or
fall off during leisure activities, and provide excellent vision. Contact
lenses are inserted into the eye and they require more thorough design than a
pair of spectacles. They also require a higher level of care.
Sometime
the usage of contact lenses does not produce symptoms, but they may still harm
the eyes. So a regular schedule check-ups are recommended for all contact lens
wearers.
Contact
lens wear may be difficult if:
Your
work environment contains lots of dust and chemicals; |
You
have an overactive thyroid, uncontrolled diabetes, or severe arthritis in your
hands or |
Your
eyes are extra dry due to pregnancy or medications you are taking.
The
advantages of wearing contact lenses
Many
wearers who don't like the appearance of eyeglasses feel that contact lenses
show their eyes in a better light. |
Contact
lenses offer more improved vision correction due to the reduced obstruction
from eyeglass frames. |
They
provide excellent peripheral vision. |
No
fogging up in warm rooms and no splattering during rain showers. |
Fewer problems as they don't fall of during sports and other
recreational activities.
The disadvantages
The contact lenses wearers require getting used to it. New soft
lens wearers mostly adjust to their lenses within a week however the rigid
lenses require a longer adjustment period. |
All lenses require regular cleaning and disinfections except for
some disposable varieties; this process will take only a few minutes, which
more than some people want to undertake. Some types of lenses increase your
eyes' sensitivity to light.
Eyeglasses disadvantages:
The distance between your eye and the lens sometimes can create
distortion. |
Peripheral vision is poor when you wear eyeglasses. |
Sometimes there are reflections from the rear side of the glasses.
| Whether you use eyeglasses or wear contact lens, you have to keep
both clean. However cleaning of contact lenses needs extra care. Every time
contact lenses are removed, they must be cleaned, rinsed, and disinfected
before wearing again. Whereas eyeglasses can be cleaned with ordinary water but
to clean contact lens you need special solution. These cleansing solutions also
get infected after opening. So you need to throw away the opened solution. Some
new users of contact lens may find it very uncomfortable to use them. Even if
you wear contact lenses full time, you should have an up-to-date pair of
eyeglasses handy to wear when you are not wearing your contact lenses. For the
maximum safety and comfort, you should remove your contact lenses at least one
hour before sleep. You should also remove your contact lenses and wear
eyeglasses if your eyes feel dry or become uncomfortable for any reason. If the
uneasiness persists, then see your eye doctor immediately. |
